How to Request More Information from a Class Action Settlement Administrator
By Timo Bakker · July 6, 2026 · 5 min read
Settlement notices are legalese-heavy and often skip the specific detail you need. Here is how to actually get answers from the administrator, and what to ask.
The administrator contact info
Every settlement notice includes:
- Physical mailing address for the administrator.
- Phone number (often a toll-free line).
- Email address (typically noreply@ or claims@ [admin-firm].com).
- Case-specific website URL.
Email is fastest. Phone is fine but often long hold times for large settlements.
What to include when you email
- Case name and number (from the notice).
- Your full legal name (as it appears on the settlement notice, if applicable).
- Your current mailing address.
- Your specific question — be direct.
Questions you can reasonably ask
- “Do I qualify?” (they can confirm based on the class definition).
- “What proof do I need to submit for the higher tier?”
- “When will payment be issued?”
- “I moved — how do I update my address?”
- “My claim was rejected — why?”
- “Can I file both online and by mail?” (no — only one)
Response times
Varies widely by administrator and case size. Well-known admins (Verita, JND, Epiq) usually respond within 5-10 business days. Smaller / newer admins can take 2-3 weeks. During peak periods (right before a claim deadline), all admins slow down.
If you get no response
Send a follow-up after 2 weeks. If still no response, contact class counsel (also listed in the notice). Class counsel has an obligation to advocate for class members and can often escalate.
