The three major US cellular carriers have faced multiple class action settlements over throttling, hidden fees, data breaches, and marketing practices. Currently-open settlements are numerous.
Categories
- Data breaches. T-Mobile (76M records + 37M records), AT&T (73M records) all facing pending settlements.
- Throttling / speed reduction: Verizon, AT&T sued over throttling "unlimited" plans without proper disclosure.
- Administrative fees: Multiple carriers have paid settlements over undisclosed administrative and regulatory recovery fees.
- Handset lease agreements: Sprint (before merger), T-Mobile settlements over payment obligations after phone return.
- Roaming / international fees: Some settlements over unexpected roaming charges when traveling.
