$23M TransUnion credit report dispute class action settlement
Jun 24, 2025
Filing Deadline
TransUnion agreed to pay $23 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the credit bureau failed to properly investigate credit report disputes. The lawsuit claimed TransUnion did not contact companies that requested credit reports and failed to remove disputed hard inquiries, leaving inaccurate information on consumers' credit reports.
Approximately 485,000 consumers who resided in the United States and received a "502 Letter" from TransUnion in response to a written dispute of an inquiry between December 5, 2016, and January 31, 2025, were eligible for compensation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if TransUnion improperly investigated my dispute?
Signs may include: your dispute was rejected without proper review, TransUnion didn't contact the creditor, they failed to remove inaccurate information, or they didn't respond within the required timeframe. Documentation of your dispute and TransUnion's response will help establish your claim.
What if I disputed information with Experian or Equifax instead of TransUnion?
This settlement only covers disputes filed with TransUnion specifically. If you had issues with Experian or Equifax, those would be separate matters not covered by this settlement.
When will I receive my settlement payment?
Settlement payments will be distributed after the claim period closes, all claims are reviewed, and the court gives final approval. This process typically takes several months to over a year from when claims open.
