CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services Data Breach Settlement
By the Class Action Buddy Editorial Team · Last reviewed October 27, 2026
CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services was breached in 2024. An unauthorized party reached information the company held, which for some people included Social Security numbers. CBIZ denies doing anything wrong, and the court has not decided who was right — the settlement ends the case rather than resolving it.
The class is drawn narrowly: everyone CBIZ mailed a notice saying their personal information may have been caught up in the incident. If no letter arrived, you are almost certainly outside it. That comes to 19,990 people, a number that matters here more than it usually would.
It matters because the administrator has published the arithmetic behind its own estimate, which is rare enough to be worth saying. The cash payment is put at roughly $100, and the site states plainly that the figure assumes one in ten of those 19,990 people files. If more file, the number comes down. If fewer do, it goes up.
Documented out-of-pocket losses traceable to the breach are a separate claim, reimbursable up to $5,000, and those get paid before the cash payments are worked out.
So the $100 is a projection with its assumption stated out loud, not a promise. Treat anyone quoting it as a fixed amount with suspicion.
Claims close December 24, 2026. The judge in the Northern District of Ohio considers final approval on January 13, 2027. Nothing moves before then.

Who Is Eligible?
You may be eligible to file a claim if you:
- You were mailed a notice. The class is everyone CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services sent a letter saying their personal information may have been compromised in the 2024 data incident. The mailing list is the class — no letter, almost certainly no claim.
- 19,990 people in total, which is the figure the administrator uses to estimate payments.
- Who is excluded: anyone who opts out, the judge assigned to the settlement and their staff, CBIZ officers and directors, and anyone criminally culpable for the incident.
How Much Can You Get?
Two separate claims, and you can make both.
A cash payment put at roughly $100. The administrator states the assumption behind it: a 10% claim rate against 19,990 people. It is adjusted pro rata on what is left in the fund after fees, administration, service awards and the documented-loss claims are paid — so more claimants means less each, fewer means more.
Up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses actually traceable to the incident. These are paid before the cash payments are calculated.
The $100 is a projection with its assumption published, not a promise. That is more transparency than most settlements offer, and it is still an estimate.
How to File Your Claim
File with the administrator:
- File by December 24, 2026 at cbizdatabreachsettlement.com.
- Claim the cash payment even with no losses. The documented-loss claim is separate and needs receipts; the cash payment does not.
- Final approval is January 13, 2027 before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Nothing is paid before then.
- The case is In re CBIZ Data Breach Litigation, Case No. 1:24-cv-01722-DCN.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the deadline to file a claim for the CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services Data Breach Settlement?
The current deadline to file a claim is Dec 24, 2026. Claims sent by mail must be postmarked by this date, so allow about a week for delivery if you are not filing online.
How do I file a claim for the CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services Data Breach Settlement?
File directly with the settlement administrator, using the official claim form linked on this page. Class Action Buddy does not support this settlement in the app, so the administrator’s own claim process is the route. You do not need a Claimant ID or PIN to file.
Will I really get $100?
That is an estimate, not a promise, and the administrator is unusually open about why. It assumes one in ten of the 19,990 class members files. More claims means a smaller share each; fewer means a larger one. It is also reduced by whatever is paid out for documented losses first.
I never got a letter. Can I still claim?
Almost certainly not. The class is defined as the people CBIZ mailed a notice to, so the mailing list effectively is the class. If you think you were affected but received nothing, contact the administrator rather than filing a claim you cannot support.
Do I need receipts?
Only for the out-of-pocket loss claim, which is capped at $5,000 and needs documentation tying the loss to the incident. The cash payment does not require any.
