Google Assistant Privacy Class Action Settlement — $68M Fund

Who Was Eligible?

Who the settlement covered:

• Privacy Settlement Class — no proof of purchase. You used Google Assistant, or lived in the household of someone who did, between 18 May 2016 and 19 March 2026, and your conversation was recorded through a “False Accept” or shared with a third-party review vendor. This is the claim most people file.
• Purchaser Settlement Class — proof required. You bought a Google-Made Device in the United States or its territories in the same window. This claim asks for each device's serial number or IMEI and proof of purchase, such as a receipt or order confirmation.
• You can be in both, and the points add up: 1 for the Privacy claim, 4 for each of up to 3 devices.
• You do not need a Unique ID and PIN. If the administrator emailed you one, use it — but the FAQ states you can still file without it if you are a class member.
• Every Claim Form must be personally signed under penalty of perjury. A parent or guardian files for anyone under 18.

How Much Did It Pay?

There is no fixed payout, and the administrator says so outright. Its own FAQ states: “At this time, it is unknown how much each Settlement Class Member who files a timely and valid claim will receive… The final payment amounts will not be known until the Claims Administrator determines the total number of eligible Claimants and the total number of points reflected by their Claim Forms.”

The fund pays in points, not dollars. The $68 million is divided by points across both classes:

• A Privacy Class claim is worth 1 point.
• A Purchaser Class claim is worth 4 points per eligible Google-Made Device, capped at 3 devices — so 12 points at most.

Someone in both classes with three devices therefore tops out at 13 points, thirteen times the smallest claim. What a point is worth depends entirely on how many people file.

What comes out of the fund first: attorneys' fees of up to one third of it, expenses of up to $1.6 million, service awards of up to $10,000 for each class representative, plus notice, administration, escrow fees and taxes. On the fee cap alone that is roughly $22.7 million, leaving a net fund in the region of $43 million before administration.

The only figures on the record are the deliberately conservative estimates the claims administrator filed with the court in the preliminary-approval motion (ECF 549 at 6). Assuming all ~266 million people who were sent notice of the Privacy Class file, and at most 60 million purchasers:

• Privacy Class member: $2 – $10
• Purchaser Class member with one device: $18 – $56

Google disputes those assumptions, and notes that if the class is smaller than counsel assumes then each person receives more. Treat the ranges as a floor rather than a forecast — and treat any site quoting you a single Google Assistant payout figure as making it up.

How this claim was filed

This settlement is closed, so the steps below are kept for reference only — they no longer lead anywhere you can file.

• Confirm you qualify — a U.S. resident who owned a Google device or used Google Assistant between May 18, 2016 and March 19, 2026.
• File by August 27, 2026 — the claim deadline. Mailed claims must be postmarked by this date, and Class Action Buddy ships claim forms with a 7-day mailing buffer.
• Privacy Class claims need no proof. Purchaser Class claims may ask for device details (and, for larger device counts, proof of purchase). You can file even without a Unique ID using the official form's "no Unique ID" option.
