Shein Fake Discount Class Action Lawsuit (Severino)

If you've ever shopped on Shein and felt like those eye-catching strikethrough discounts were too good to be true, you're not alone. A class action lawsuit filed on 5 May 2026 — Severino v. Shein US Services LLC, Case No. 3:26-cv-04062 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California — accuses the fast fashion retailer of advertising "reference prices" it rarely, if ever, actually charged, so the discount is manufactured. The practice, often called "phantom pricing" or false reference pricing, is illegal under consumer protection laws when the original price was never genuinely charged.
