Kia and Hyundai have agreed to pay $9 million to settle a class action lawsuit over vehicle thefts resulting from missing engine immobilizer technology in certain 2011-2022 models, which made them vulnerable to the viral "Kia Boys" theft method.
The case (No. 8:22-ml-03052-JVS-KES) was filed before the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. If you own a 2011-2022 Kia or Hyundai vehicle that was not factory-equipped with an engine immobilizer and experienced a qualifying theft or theft attempt, you may be eligible for up to $4,500.
You may be eligible to file a claim if you:
Total loss: Up to $4,500
Partial loss: Up to $2,250
Attempted theft expenses: Up to $375
