Two things about this settlement are not what the headlines say.

The first is the money. The figure being quoted is $780,000, and the fund that actually pays claimants is $230,000 of it. Administration costs come out of that same $230,000 before anyone is paid, and the $75 per qualifying purchase is explicitly subject to pro-rata reduction if claims exceed what is there. The gap between the headline and the pot is a factor of more than three.

The second is who qualifies, and this one may be costing people a claim. Every summary says legally blind. The settlement's own class definition says something broader: that you had a vision-related disability requiring assistive technology to access visual information at the time of the purchase. If you use a screen reader or magnification and have never described yourself as legally blind, read the four requirements before ruling yourself out.

The class period is extraordinary in length. It runs from July 20, 2011 to August 12, 2026, which is fifteen years of Massachusetts shopping trips, and each qualifying purchase counts separately rather than once per person.

Who Is Eligible?

You may be eligible to file a claim if you:

  • You made a purchase at a The Container Store location in Massachusetts between July 20, 2011 and August 12, 2026.
  • You had a vision-related disability requiring assistive technology to access visual information at the time of that purchase. This is the settlement’s own wording, and it is broader than the “legally blind” shorthand used everywhere else.
  • You sought to credit the purchase to a new or existing Container Store loyalty account.
  • You met a touch screen point-of-sale kiosk or other device with no non-visual way to enter the information.
  • All four have to be true, and each qualifying purchase counts separately rather than once per shopper.

How Much Can You Get?

$780,000 total. $230,000 is the Damages Fund. That is the pot valid claims are paid from, and administration costs come out of the same $230,000 before anyone is paid. The headline and the claimant pool differ by a factor of more than three.

$75 for each qualifying purchase, explicitly subject to pro-rata reduction of the Damages Fund. If claims exceed what is there, every payment scales down.

The rest of the settlement is not cash. The Container Store has agreed to make accessibility improvements. That is the benefit to anyone who does nothing, and it is real, but it is not a payment.

How to File Your Claim

File with the administrator:

  • Claims close December 20, 2026, at tcssettlement.com. An accessible claim form is published alongside the standard one.
  • Objecting closed October 9, 2026.
  • The fairness hearing has already been held. The administrator’s own dates page lists two of them, October 29 and November 4, 2026, both now past. The claim window stays open to December 20 regardless, and payment still depends on the court approving the settlement.
  • Help: CPT Group on 1-888-716-1143 or TCSSettlement@cptgroup.com.
  • The case is Cadigan, et al. v. The Container Store, Inc., Case No. 2084CV02119, Massachusetts Superior Court, Suffolk County, brought under the Massachusetts Public Accommodations Act, the Massachusetts Equal Rights Act and Chapter 93A.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the deadline to file a claim for the The Container Store Kiosk Accessibility Settlement?

The current deadline to file a claim is Dec 20, 2026. Claims sent by mail must be postmarked by this date, so allow about a week for delivery if you are not filing online.

How do I file a claim for the The Container Store Kiosk Accessibility Settlement?

File directly with the settlement administrator, using the official claim form linked on this page. Class Action Buddy does not support this settlement in the app, so the administrator’s own claim process is the route. You do not need a Claimant ID or PIN to file.

I have low vision but I am not legally blind. Am I out?

Do not assume so. Every summary of this settlement says “legally blind”, but the class definition asks whether you had a vision-related disability requiring assistive technology to access visual information when you made the purchase. If you rely on a screen reader or magnification, read the four requirements and call CPT Group on 1-888-716-1143 rather than ruling yourself out.

Can I claim for more than one shopping trip?

Yes. The $75 attaches to each qualifying purchase, not to each person, and the class period runs fifteen years from July 20, 2011 to August 12, 2026. The pro-rata reduction applies to the total if claims outrun the $230,000 Damages Fund.

Is this really a $780,000 settlement?

That is the total figure, but only $230,000 of it is the Damages Fund that pays claims, and administration is paid from that same amount. The balance sits in the accessibility improvements the Container Store agreed to make, which benefit future shoppers rather than past ones.
