Virginia’s own consumer protection law
Class actions are almost always federal or multi-state, so living in Virginia rarely decides whether you can claim from a settlement. Where it can matter is when the claim rests on Virginia’s own statute.
Virginia Consumer Protection Act (Va. Code § 59.1-200). It declares unlawful a numbered list of “fraudulent acts or practices committed by a supplier in connection with a consumer transaction” — misrepresenting goods or services as those of another, and misrepresenting their source, sponsorship, approval, certification or affiliation. Virginia frames the whole thing around the supplier and around a consumer transaction, so business-to-business dealings sit outside it.
An individual action must be commenced within two years of accrual (Va. Code § 59.1-204.1).
