Ohio’s own consumer protection law
Class actions are almost always federal or multi-state, so living in Ohio rarely decides whether you can claim from a settlement. Where it can matter is when the claim rests on Ohio’s own statute.
Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act (Ohio Rev. Code § 1345.02). “No supplier shall commit an unfair or deceptive act or practice in connection with a consumer transaction” — and, in the sentence that does the real work, it violates the section “whether it occurs before, during, or after the transaction.” Ohio reaches how a business behaves once it already has your money.
An action may not be brought more than two years after the violation, or one year after the attorney general’s proceedings on it end, whichever is later (Ohio Rev. Code § 1345.10(C)).
