Oregon’s own consumer protection law
Class actions are almost always federal or multi-state, so living in Oregon rarely decides whether you can claim from a settlement. Where it can matter is when the claim rests on Oregon’s own statute.
Oregon Unlawful Trade Practices Act (ORS 646.608). A person acts unlawfully if, in the course of business, they do any of a long list of things — starting with passing off “real estate, goods or services as the real estate, goods or services of another.” Oregon names real estate and services in the same breath as goods, so the Act is not confined to retail products.
A private action must be commenced within one year after discovery of the unlawful practice (ORS 646.638(6)).
