Montana’s own consumer protection law
Class actions are almost always federal or multi-state, so living in Montana rarely decides whether you can claim from a settlement. Where it can matter is when the claim rests on Montana’s own statute.
Montana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act (Mont. Code § 30-14-103). The whole section is one line — “Unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices in the conduct of any trade or commerce are unlawful” — with no enumerated list at all. The breadth is the point: there is no schedule of practices for conduct to fall outside of.
